The Buena Vista Coal Mine, loed at the foot of the Buena Vista Buttes, has a long and storied history. Here the coal bed is 11 feet thick and topped with over 50 feet of clay and sand. This mine was first opened up in the early 1900s by the Fitzsimmons family.
